What is Laser Resurfacing?
Pigmentation, sun spots, age spots, and redness are common skin conditions. They are usually a cosmetic concern and vary in size, shape, and depth. With laser skin resurfacing, we can successfully treat pigmentation on both facial and body areas, regardless of skin type, achieving brighter, more uniform-looking skin with minimal downtime.
At Eye Consultants, we employ the The Lumenis IPL with OPT™ to achieve outstanding laser resurfacing results. This technology is considered the ‘Gold Standard’ in photorejuvenation treatments. The versatility of Lumenis’ IPL enables effective and comprehensive treatment of a wide range of pigmented lesions such as vascular lesions, sun spots, age spots, redness, and more.
Who is a Candidate?
If you are bothered by unwanted pigmented or vascular lesions, laser resurfacing may be right for you. However, those with compromised immune systems, coagulation disorders, or a history of herpes simplex near the treatment site may not be ideal candidates. To learn more about this treatment and if it is right for you, please contact Eye Consultants in Wilmington, DE, today.
How Does Laser Resurfacing Work?
During your Lumenis IPL laser resurfacing treatment, intense pulses of light are distributed across the skin, targeting unwanted pigmented and vascular lesions. These light pulses are absorbed by the pigment in the skin or hemoglobin in blood vessels, eliminating these targets. The “Optimal Pulse Technology” ensures that energy is delivered consistently with precise control over pulse duration and intensity. This reduces the risk of burns or side effects, making the treatment safe for different skin types.
What to Expect from Laser Resurfacing Treatment
To begin your laser resurfacing treatment, your skin will be cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, and sunscreen. A cool gel may also be applied to the treatment area to assist the IPL device in gliding smoothly across your skin. Eyewear should be worn to protect your eyes from the bright light pulses.
Your provider will move the IPL handpiece over the treatment area, delivering pulses of intense pulsed light. The handpiece also has built-in cooling technology to ensure your comfort.
After Laser Resurfacing
Redness and mild swelling may occur directly after Lumenis IPL treatment. Your skin may be slightly red and feel warm, similar to a sunburn. If your treatment is aimed at addressing pigmentation, the treated spots may appear darker before fading and flaking off. There is no downtime required, so you can return to your regular activities as soon as you wish.
To maintain results, avoid direct sunlight and apply sunscreen when outdoors. Most people require a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart for best results.
