What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler used to erase visible signs of aging, including under-eye bags and dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles, and volume loss. The hyaluronic acid mimics the kind found naturally in your skin. It boosts collagen and elastin production and improves hydration and the overall appearance of your skin.

Who is a Good Candidate for Juvéderm?

Most patients who come to us looking for dermal filler injections are good candidates, but there are some criteria we look for, including:
  • In generally good health
  • Adults at least 18 years old
  • Nonsmokers
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Struggling with fine lines and wrinkles, volume loss, under-eye hollows
  • Want to improve overall facial appearance

What to Expect from Juvéderm Treatment

During Juvéderm treatment, your specialist will begin by cleansing the treatment area. Juvéderm formulas contain lidocaine and don’t require extra anesthetic, so once the area is clean, your provider will begin the injection process using a very fine needle.

In total, the procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, but it can depend on the number of areas being treated and the results you’re looking for.

Juvéderm Aftercare

There is almost no recovery time with Juvéderm. You can go back to most of your normal routine immediately after treatment. However, for the first 24 hours post-treatment, you should avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure, makeup, and alcohol.

You may notice some swelling, but that will subside relatively quickly. As for results, you will see most improvements immediately. The results can last anywhere from six months to two years, and re-treatment is needed to maintain those results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Juvéderm and how does it work?

Juvéderm is a family of injectable dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the skin. It works by attracting moisture to targeted areas, helping to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours.

How long do Juvéderm results typically last?

Results from Juvéderm can last anywhere from six months to up to two years, depending on the specific product used and the area treated. Factors such as metabolism, facial movement, and lifestyle can also influence longevity.

Which areas of the face can be treated with Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is commonly used to treat the lips, cheeks, jawline, chin, and the folds around the nose and mouth. Certain formulations are designed for deeper structural support, while others focus on subtle refinement.

Is Juvéderm safe for all skin types?

Juvéderm is considered safe for all skin types when administered by a qualified provider. A consultation is always important to review medical history, allergies, and aesthetic goals.

Does Juvéderm treatment hurt?

Most patients describe Juvéderm injections as very tolerable, with only mild discomfort. Many formulations contain lidocaine, and additional numbing techniques can be used to enhance comfort during treatment.

How soon will I see results after my Juvéderm injections?

Results are visible immediately after treatment, though some swelling may temporarily affect the final appearance. As swelling subsides over the next few days, results become smoother and more refined.

What is the downtime or recovery period after treatment?

Juvéderm typically requires little to no downtime, allowing most patients to return to normal activities the same day. Mild swelling or bruising can occur but usually resolves within a few days.

Are there any side effects I should expect from Juvéderm?

Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites. These effects are generally mild and short-lived when treatment is performed properly.

How much Juvéderm will I need for my treatment goals?

The amount of Juvéderm needed varies based on the treatment area, degree of volume loss, and desired result. Your provider will recommend a personalized plan to achieve natural-looking results.

Can Juvéderm be combined with Botox or other cosmetic procedures?

Juvéderm is often combined with Botox or other treatments to address both volume loss and dynamic wrinkles. Combining procedures can create more comprehensive facial rejuvenation while maintaining a natural appearance.
