Refractive errors, like near and farsightedness, and eye conditions, like cataracts are common and straightforward to treat. However, without annual or biannual routine eye exams, you may have an eye condition without even knowing it. That’s what makes routine eye exams at Eye Consultants so important. The doctors and at Eye Consultants will evaluate your eyes and diagnose any eye conditions you have, allowing you to start treatment as soon as possible.
What are Routine Eye Exams?
A routine eye exam is done to check the quality of your vision as well as your eye health. As your vision and eye health can change over time and sometimes without you noticing, routine eye exams can ensure Dr. Dealy catches vision problems or eye concerns early so they can be more easily treated.
If your vision has changed, we can also update your prescription. We offer refraction, a check for glasses prescription, and contact lens fittings. Routine eye exams are typically performed once a year and take an hour to an hour and a half.
What to Expect During a Routine Eye Exam
A routine eye exam will consist of a vision evaluation, a check of intraocular pressure, and a test of your eye movement. Our team will perform a dilated eye exam, which is used to see the inside of the eye and determine if there are any signs of abnormalities or eye conditions like cataracts or glaucoma. Systemic diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and their complications, are also able to be detected in the eyes as well. A thorough examination is very important. This is why our doctors offer vision and refractive services, as well as a comprehensive eye health exam.
At Eye Consultants, our team has experience in seeing hundreds of patients for routine eye exams. Once the doctor examines your eyes, they will give you an updated prescription for glasses or contact lenses (if desired), and if further treatment is needed, they will walk you through the next steps to improve your eye health.
After Your Eye Exam
If your eyes are dilated, you may experience some sensitivity to light and blurry vision for a few hours after your eye exam. It can take until the next day before these side effects fully dissipate, but that is very rare.
Currently, we can fulfill contact lens supplies with a valid prescription. One of our added services in early 2025 will be offering optical solutions for our patients that need glasses. We are excited to offer this added benefit to our patient’s routine exams!
